Balance in Our Lives

5:04 PM
With 30 years in the healthcare field, I find that while we want to reduce stress, get stronger and healthier, most people in my practice struggle more with balance than any other thing in their life. With so many “roles” and responsibilities in our day, we often leave ourselves out. One of the things I love about Ayurveda is that it is so much about balance.

Balance defined is when our mind, body, and environment are in balance or harmony. What I love about this Ayurveda principle is that there so many predictable patterns and as a result- yes solutions!

Over the next several months, we will discover a myriad of solutions to having balance in our lives.

Here is this week Simplistic Solution:

I know that being away from the white noise in our day is a must for balance. Take one meal a week and eat it in silence. Remember, that doesn’t mean reading or watching TV while you’re eating. Really be silent. Once a week (really is the bare minimum) every week.

For those that want to expand this and really get the full impact of this solution.

Build a New Habit

Eat in Silence Once A Week and add the following: Think about preparing your food in gratitude and eating in a quiet atmosphere. Breathe throughout your meal and be relaxed. When the food comes, wait a few minutes and appreciate the food prepared in front of you. Be grateful. Taste the food and enjoy. For most, eat a little less that meal. Reduce, preferably remove (though this is still a difficult one for me) your liquid intake. Sit for a few minutes after you’ve eaten. Take a short walk (even if it’s to your car) and get your digestion moving. Yes…. Once a week (really this is the bare minimum) every week.

For the brave and …I’m ready to make a difference in my life…

Changing poor eating habits can improve our lives in so many ways. Commit for 21 days to change your eating habits at every meal. Breathe throughout your meal and be more relaxed. When the food comes, wait a few minutes and appreciate the food prepared in front of you. Be grateful. Taste the food and enjoy. Slow down. Don’t eat until you are "full". For most people it is too much food, so eat a little less. Gauge and only eat 2/3 full and leave the stomach 1/3 empty to be able to digest your food better. Reduce (preferably remove) your liquid intake. Sit for a few minutes after you’ve eaten. Take a short walk. Strive to do this at every meal. Also, Keep Eating in Silence Once A Week!

Remember. If you "mess up" don’t "give up".
Get right back at it.
